Banjo SN0016

This is a very unique banjo from top to bottom.  The walnut pot has a double flange turned into it.  The hooks rest on the bottom flange and the top flange adds aesthetic appeal.  The bottom of the pot has a rim of beautiful curly maple with a slight rim extending inside the pot.  The tonering is also walnut and produces a pure tone.  A Renaissance head, No-Knot tailpiece, Vega style armrest, and a custom handmade bridge complete the pot.  The walnut neck is a slot-head design with a dobson style 5th string tuner.  The 2 piece walnut neck has a nice stripe of sapwood down the center and a curly maple heel cap.   An exposed truss rod nut is visible in the scoop.  The tuning machines are 16 to 1 guitar style tuners with black buttons.  The neck and pot are joined together with a custom cast bronze neck brace and ebony wedges.  There is also a bronze plate which runs under the flange and through the heel joint as a bit of added bronze banjo bling.  The finish is a French polish and is very smooth to the touch.  This is a beautiful and unique instrument which sounds as good as it looks.  When I sold this banjo, the buyer wanted some custom inlay in the scoop and and his initials in the headstock.  I added the initials in bone to match the nut and the scoop inlay is pearl.
