Banjo SN0019

This is a unique banjo with a wood tone ring hybrid pot constructed as a block rim with a bent wood ply on the inside.  The 11" block rim is constructed from 6 layers, (top to bottom), of padauk, curly maple, walnut, birdseye maple, padauk, and birdseye maple. On the inside of the rim, a layer of padauk was bent and laminated to the turned block rim.  The bottom two layers were then added to finish the pot.  The pot also has a Renaissance head, No-Knot tailpiece, Vega style armrest, and a hand-made compensated bridge.  The neck is curly maple with a walnut strip down the center and a matching heel cap of padauk and birdseye maple.  The fretboard and headstock are ebony.  Abalone position markers are used on the fretboard and also as side dots.  The headstock has an engraved pearl star.  The tuners are by Gotoh and have black knobs.  The fretboard has 16 frets and a scoop with an exposed trussrod nut.  The neck is 1 5/16" wide and the string spacing is 5/16".  This banjo has a big sound and excellent bass response.  You can hear me play it on YouTube by clicking the link below.
