Walnut and Birsdeye Maple Lightweight 11" Openback

This is one of my lightweight banjos, but with a twist... a lightweight pot and a slot-head neck!  The pot is walnut with an Ashborn style flange and a birdseye maple tonering and cap.  I noticed a piece of birdseye maple that had a very unusual grain patern and so I formed the tonering to follow that grain pattern.  The result was a beautiful little dobson shape that sounds wonderful!  The slot-head has a birdseye veneer and a dobson style 5th string tuner.  A thin strip of the birdseye runs down the center and caps the heel.  The neck is a 25.5" scale length with 17 frets, a frailing scoop, and an exposed truss rod nut in the scoop.  I used long wearing EVO frets on the neck.  The only inlays are pearl side dots.  The pot has a Vega style armrest, No-Knot tailpiece, Renaissance head, and a handmade bridge.  An ebony wedge holds the neck to the pot.  I am very proud of this banjo!  It is one of the most beautiful I have made and It really sounds fine.  You can hear me play it accompanying my wife on John Salyer's Trouble On My Mind.
